Procedure for Applying for assistance:
We designate one Board Director to handle all requests and be the contact person. A request will usually take 24-48 hours from receipt of request to process and several days if there are concerns, questions or there is missing information.
We never pay cash to anyone!
We can only pay a legitimate vendor of service such as a utility company, hospital or Dr.’s office, landlord, etc.
Procedure:
1. Residents write a letter stating their crisis and enclosing copy of bills.

With the exception of firewood, we need a bill with an exact total. If you are not sure what that total is, call the vendor for an amount.
Example: Don’t send a letter saying “I need propane!”. Send us the name of your propane company and the exact amount that they will need. In most cases we will only pay the minimum amt.
2. A Board Director will contact the person and interview them, asking questions to see how best we can help. A plan is made with the applicant for immediate support and actions for them to take to help stabilize the situation further.
3. The Director will present the request to the board who reviews the application and votes to help if all the guidelines are met.
4. Once the Board of Directors has determined that the request fulfills all NHN guidelines and votes to pay the request, the resident can send us the official bill with an addressed stamped envelope.
5. The request then goes to the treasurer who will work with the applicant and pay the bills directed by the board.
